The Bubble Lamps were designed by George Nelson who was the creative director of the prestigious design studio Herman Miller from 1946 to 1972. In 1998 Modernica acquired the original Howard Miller tooling and became the exclusive authorised manufacturer of George Nelson Bubble Lamps. Today the Bubble Lamps have become a modern classic and is featured as a permanent collection in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

George Nelson got his inspiration form Liberty Ships being mothballed. When Nelson was outfitting his office in 1947, he coveted a silk-covered Swedish hanging lamp but found it prohibitively expensive. He then recalled seeing a photo in the paper of Liberty ships being mothballed “by having the decks covered with netting and then being sprayed with a self-webbing plastic,” said Nelson. He convinced himself it would be perfect for lighting. He made a metal frame, tracked down the source of the webbing material and by the next day he created a big glowing sphere and the Bubble Lamp was born.

    Returns & Refunds

    Zest Lighting offers a full refund (excluding our outbound shipping cost) or exchange for change of mind purchases within a 30 day period with proof of purchase (website order confirmation email).

    If you wish to return an item you've purchased from us, please email our office on info@zestlighting.com.au and provide our staff with your order number (on your tax invoice) and the item that you would like to return. Please refer to our guarantee page to see our full return policy.
